Il rapporto tra Alessandro Manzoni e i frati cappuccini è chiaro e anche consistente, ne “I promessi sposi”, ed è anche ben noto ai lettori del romanzo; ma qui si mostra e si espone tutto il panorama del rapporto tra il Manzoni e l’Ordine cappuccino negli ambiti delle relazioni quotidiane e si conclude che il romanziere ebbe, per la sua opera, a pensare ai frati cappuccini non già per amicizia – ci furono infatti conoscenze di frati da parte del Manzoni, e non ci fu amicizia vera e propria -, ma per l’ideale morale e spirituale che l’Ordine aveva dimostrato, appunto, nel sec. XVII: un Ordine che il Manzoni conobbe a fondo, anche a livello delle normative e delle consuetudini ed attitudini.
